CHICAGO (CBS) — A skateboarder is in critical condition on Friday, the victim of a hit-and-run crash.
Police were able to catch and arrest the driver as he fled on North Avenue. Luis P. Pena, 30, was charged with a variety of offenses, including two counts of aggravated driving under the influence and one count of leaving the scene of an accident.
The accident happened when the man was riding the skateboard in the bike lane of the 1700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue about 2 a.m., when he was struck from behind, police said
The skateboarder is in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.
Officers pulled the motorist over North Avenue and North Oakley Boulevard.
Police said the driver may have been intoxicated, but no charges have been filed.
