UPDATED: 10/20/2012 1:45 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police have released two persons of interest after a high school senior was fatally shot in the chest Friday afternoon in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood.

The shooting happened about 3:40 p.m. near East 99th Street and South Yates Avenue, said police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan, citing preliminary information.

Terrance Wright, 18, of the 5000 block of South Carpenter Street, was shot in the chest and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 4:31 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Sources tell CBS 2 Wright was a senior at Banner Academy South High School, which is located about one block from where the shooting occurred.

He reportedly was approached by a group of men and fought back when they tried going through his pockets. The teen was shot in the chest.

An autopsy for Wright is scheduled for Saturday.

Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said two people were in police custody, but there were released on Saturday.

Area South detectives are investigating.
