Thieves Target Commerical Air Conditioners For Parts

WAUKEGAN (CBS) -- Thieves posed as legitimate tradesmen when they recently went after a commercial air-conditioning unit for its parts.

It was one of a string of commercial air-conditioning thefts over the last three weeks, according to the Waukegan Police Department.

Police report there have been several burglaries throughout the community where large commercial units are being stolen from ground level and off roofs.

In some cases, the units are stripped of their valuable contents and only the shell is left.

Police said thieves hit a business at 1401 N. Green Bay Road three times, and also hit businesses at 1401 N. Lewis Ave., 2511 Grand Ave. and 1800 Sunset Avenue.

Police are asking area residents to be vigilant about suspicious people or activities in their neighborhoods.

Residents are urged to contact police when they observe something or someone suspicious, especially when it involves air-conditioning units.
