(CBS) — Like most people in America, I’m glued to my TV about Hurricane Sandy: the pictures of destruction and despair, helplessness, hopelessness – heartbreakingly sad and depressingly ugly.

But out of all of that has come a beautiful — to me, a truly beautiful — picture of two politicians: fiercely partisan, Democratic president; a Republican governor; philosophically, deeply left and right dealing with a problem together.

Politicians not playing politics, but keeping promises.

Enlarge that picture and print it a thousand-times and hang it on light poles on Capitol Hill and on the walls of the Congress. Politicians doing what we vote for them to do, to work together in search of solutions to problems to lead.

Hang that beautiful picture cross-country, to cause us to dream that someday the rest of our politicians will follow.
