Teen Charged In Fatal Joy-Ride Crash In Aurora

AURORA, Ill. (CBS) – A 15-year-old boy has been charged with reckless homicide for the Oct. 23 joy-ride crash that killed teen Devon Meadows.

Logan Krogman of Aurora took his father's car without permission and met up with Meadows and two other friends for a joy ride, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.

While traveling at a high rate of speed, Krogman lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a home, Berlin said. Meadows, also of Aurora, was ejected from the vehicle and died from head injuries; he was not wearing a seat belt.

"At fifteen years old, Logan Krogman had no business being behind the wheel of a car," Berlin said. "This is a senseless tragedy that did not have to happen. Driving a car is not a right. It is a privilege that is earned once a person is sixteen years old and has had the proper training."

Krogman turned himself in to authorities late this afternoon. He posted the necessary $7,500 of his $75,000 bond and was released from custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 3.
