Teachers In Geneva To Go On Strike Monday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- With negotiations at an impasse, school teachers in Geneva plan to walk off the job on Monday.

Teachers in School District 304 met with the school board for 10 hours on Thursday, but not agreement was reached.

"Although we had some productive discussions and exchanged offers, no settlement was reached," said Carol Young, president of the Geneva Education Association (GEA).

"The GEA informed the Board that it is available to meet at any time over the weekend and through Monday to continue discussions, but the Board informed us that it is unwilling to schedule another mediation session until Tuesday, Nov. 13."

Young said in a statement that the union is offering to accept a one-year salary freeze.

The school board did not immediately comment.
