2 Dead, 6 Wounded In Gun Violence Since Friday Night

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men are dead and at least six others wounded from gun violence in Chicago since Friday evening.

Freddie Hernandez was standing outside in the 2500 block of South Trumbull Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood at 2:38 a.m. Saturday when a van pulled up and someone inside started shooting, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. The 20-year-old Hernandez, who was shot in the face, was initially taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 3:15 a.m.

About 6:38 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the chest in the 6600 block of South Bell Avenue in the Marquette Park neighborhood, according to police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan. The victim, whose identity was not yet available later Saturday morning, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead.

A man was critically wounded when he was shot in the neck Friday night in the Austin neighborhood. The shooting happened in the 200 block of North Laporte Avenue about 6:45 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. The man was initially taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Greer said, but was transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Two men were shot outside a house party in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood early Saturday. The shooting occurred at 12:15 a.m. in the 8600 block of South Loomis Boulevard, Gaines said. The two men were at a house party when they stepped outside and heard multiple shots, Greer said. The pair fled on foot and realized they were shot. A 19-year-old man was shot in the back and taken in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition, Greer said. A 20-year-old man was taken in "stable" condition to Christ with two gunshot wounds to the shoulder.

A man was shot early Saturday in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The shooting occurred at 2:35 a.m. in the 5500 block of South California Avenue, Sullivan said. He was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the buttocks.

Early Saturday in the South Shore neighborhood a man was shot in both legs, police said. The man, in his 20s, was shot in both legs at 1:20 a.m. in the 6700 block of South Jeffrey Boulevard, Greer said. Hospital and condition information was not immediately available for this victim.
