Body Found After House Fire In Grundy County

MORRIS, Ill. (STMW) -- A person was found dead after a house fire in Grundy County, Morris police said.

Police did not disclose the age or gender of the victim in a news release, nor did they say whether the person may have died before the fire started.

Officials from the police department and the Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District were not immediately available for comment Friday night.

Responding to a call to assist at a fire in the 1600 block of Creek Drive, police were notified upon their arrival that there was a dead body in the home, the release said.

Morris Police asked the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit to assist with the investigation. The state fire marshal's office also was investigating.

The victim's identity was to be released by the Grundy County coroner's office after an autopsy, according to the release. No one from the coroner's office could be reached for comment Friday night.
