Man Charged After Beating, Kidnapping Wife, Other Woman

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police in Northwest Indiana say a 51-year old man has been arrested on charges he held his wife and another woman hostage over the past couple of weeks and beat and intimidated them.

A woman told police that James Skehan, 51 beat her and his own wife in a Michigan City trailer, covering the victims' mouths when police arrived.

A neighbor had called police after hearing the abuse.

According to the Northwest Indiana Times, Skehan moved the two women to a hotel where he kept them frightened for their lives until Saturday.

Skehan's wife escaped after Skehan told her to go buy beer for him.

Eventually, the ex-husband of the other woman became concerned about her whereabouts and called police.

Skehan was then arrested.
