Accident Snarls Traffic On Bishop Ford

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An accident is causing major backups on the Bishop Ford Expy. on Tuesday morning.

The multi-vehicle accident on 130th Street between the expressway and Torrence Avenue is also causing backups on the inbound Bishop Ford.

As of 6:20 a.m., traffic is at a near standstill between 159th Street and 130th Street. As of 7 a.m., only one lane of 130th Street was open and traffic around the Ford Motor Co. plant and the Hegewish neighborhood is at a near standstill.

Travel times, which are normally about 15 minutes, between 159th Street to the Dan Ryan Expy., are now over an hour.

Commuters driving into the city from Northwest Indiana are advised to take the Chicago Skyway or U.S. 41. Commuters from the south suburbs are advised to take Interstate 57.

At least two people were injured in the wreck. Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
