CHICAGO (CBS) — Two dozen reputed gang members are scheduled appear in court for bond hearings Friday — one day after their arrest in connection with a West Side drug market.
The 24 were among 27 people named in arrest warrants on charges stemming from the drug market, which operated in the area immediately surrounding Kilbourn and Van Buren.
Police say that over a number of weeks, undercover officers conducted surveillance and made a series of buys.
Most of the individuals were known by police to be associated with one gang.
Five of the 24 arrested in the initial sweep were already being held in the Cook County jail on other charges.
Police told Newsradio that the investigation will continue.
