2 Dead, 14 Wounded In Weekend Violence
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were killed and 14 were wounded in weekend gun violence, including an off-duty Chicago Police officer who was shot during an attempted robbery.
The off-duty officer was shot multiple times early Monday during an attempted armed robbery at West 63rd Street and South Nashville Avenue, police said. Officers were looking for a silver car and three males thought to be connected to the shooting, police said.
The officer was in "stable" condition early Sunday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The weekend's first fatality happened about 7 p.m. Sunday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, where a 16-year-old boy was shot in the chest in the 1100 block of North Harding Avenue, police said. The boy, whose identity remained unknown, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he later died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
A 15-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the hand in the same shooting, police said.
The weekend's second fatal shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, when a male was shot during a carjacking in the Austin neighborhood, police said. The male was in the 1100 block of South Austin Avenue when a man pulled a gun on him and stole his vehicle.
The man was taken to Loyola University Medical Center where he died from his wounds, police said. The victim's identity was not immediately available.
About 3:48 p.m. Sunday in the South Lawndale neighborhood, an 18-year-old woman was shot in the wrist in the 2200 block of South Marshall Boulevard, police said. She was listed in "stable" condition at Saint Anthony Hospital, police said.
About 3:35 a.m. Sunday, a 22-year-old man was shot twice in the stomach during a gang-related attack in the 2200 block of West 18th Place in the Pilsen neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition, police said.
About 12:05 a.m. Sunday on the Far Northwest Side, a male suffered a "minor" graze wound to the leg in the 8600 block of West Summerdale Avenue, police said.
On Saturday at about 11:45 p.m., a man walked into Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center with a gunshot wound to the hand, police said. The man told police he was shot at South Prairie Avenue and East 69th Street on the South Side.
About 9:18 p.m., two men were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Fuller Park neighborhood, police said. The men were standing on the sidewalk in the 100 block of East 51st Street when a vehicle pulled up and shots were fired, police said.
A 26-year-old man was shot in the back and taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said, and a 60-year-old man was shot in the foot and taken to Saint Bernard in good condition.
A police source said two people were in custody for the shooting.
About 8:20 p.m. in the Washington Heights neighborhood, a man was shot in the leg near 104th and Aberdeen streets, police said. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition, police said.
About 5:30 p.m., a 31-year-old man was shot in the back after he allegedly tried to commit a robbery in South Chicago neighborhood, police said. The shooting happened in the 8800 block South Burley Avenue, police said, and the man was listed in serious condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
About the same time, a 26-year-old man was shot in the hip during a robbery in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. The man was standing in the vestibule of a building in the 4200 block of West Washington Boulevard when two people approached him and shots were fired, police said.
The man was listed in "stable" condition at Stroger.
About 2:45 a.m., two men were injured in a gang-related shooting in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, police said. They were walking on the sidewalk in the 4100 block of West 16th Street when a gunman approached on foot and fired shots, police said.
A 33-year-old man was shot in the right hand and buttocks, police said, and a 26-year-old man was shot in the right thigh. Both were taken in "stable" condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
The weekend's first shooting occurred shortly before midnight Friday when a 48-year-old man standing on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of North Karlov Avenue heard gunfire and realized he was shot, police said. He was shot in the upper left thigh and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition, police said.
