CHICAGO (CBS) — A robbery suspect armed with a machine gun was arrested on the South Loop early Friday morning.

The man was arrested at a convenience store near 16th Street and Michigan Avenue.

Police said they responded to a call of a robbery in progress.

When they arrived, the suspect took off running.

After a short chase, the suspect was apprehended, and officers found he had a fully automatic machine gun.

The Chicago Tribune reported it also had an extended clip with more than 30 rounds.

Charges are pending.
