CHICAGO (STMW) — Two men were charged and three pit bulls were killed during a drug bust early Saturday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Kelvin Murray, 27, of the 4300 block of West Thomas Street, was charged with felony criminal fortification of a residence, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of assault, and resisting police, police said.
Police officers were executing a search warrant in the 700 block of North Springfield Avenue when Murray allegedly ran into a home and placed two-by-fours across the door, barring entry, police said.
Murray also allegedly ordered two pit bulls to attack the police officers, who fatally shot the animals, police said.
Corey Baker, 37, of the 700 block of North Springfield Avenue, allegedly ordered a third pit bull to attack the officers, police said. The animal was also fatally shot by officers.
Baker was charged with a misdemeanor of assault, police said.
Heroin and crack were found in the home, police said.
Murray, an alleged gang member, is due Jan. 7 in court, police said. His bond information was not immediately available.
