Two Hospitalized From Near West Side Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people, one of them a child, were hospitalized following a fire on the Near West Side Sunday afternoon.

The fire happened about 1:40 p.m. at 2334 W. Van Buren St., according to Fire Media Affairs. A still-and-box alarm and EMS Plan 1, which sends at least five ambulances to the scene, were called in response to the blaze.

The fire was extinguished quickly, with the still-and-box alarm struck out by 1:54 p.m. The EMS Plan was secured by 2 p.m.

An adult, who was in fair to serious condition, and a child, who was in serious to critical condition, were both taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to Fire Media. Their ages were not immediately available but according to unconfirmed dispatch reports the adult was a woman in her 40s.
