Driver Flees On Foot After Pedestrian Killed In Woodlawn Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A driver was arrested after trying to run away from a Woodlawn neighborhood crash that killed a pedestrian Tuesday morning.

Derrick Woodhouse, 39, was walking in the 6100 block of South Langley Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood when he was hit by the vehicle, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Police say the man driving the vehicle made a turn onto South Langley Avenue from East 79th Street when he struck Woodhouse about 9:50 a.m.

The man fled the scene on foot but was later arrested by police, said News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala. Charges are pending.

Pronouncement information was not immediately available for Woodhouse, who lived in the 7300 block of South Carpenter Street, a medical examiner's office spokesman said.
