1 Dead, 13 Wounded In Christmas Eve, Christmas Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person was killed and 13 wounded in gun violence over the Christmas holiday, including an 11-year-old boy grazed by a bullet and a man who was shot to death during a dispute in the Englewood neighborhood.

Joshua Davis, 18, was shot to death in the 2000 block of W. 69th Street -- a few blocks from his home -- after an altercation with several males on a CTA bus, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The group followed Davis off the bus when one of the males pulled out a handgun and shot Davis several times in the torso and once in the ear about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

Davis, of the 7200 block of South Bell Avenue, was pronounced dead an hour later at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, the Medical Examiner's office said.

Later, on the West Side, two males were shot -- one critically -- in the Austin neighborhood about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The 21-year-old men were in a van in the 0 to 100 block of North Lockwood Avenue when one suffered a critical gunshot wound to the neck and the other was shot in the knee, police said.

Police say the men were involved in an "altercation" at a party earlier in the night and believe the shooter approached the van on foot.

Both were dropped off by a friend at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, but the critical victim was transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Earlier Tuesday evening in the Woodlawn neighborhood, an 11-year-old boy suffered a bullet graze wound on his arm while he was walking with a group about 7 p.m., police said.

The boy, who told police he was walking down the street when he heard shots and felt pain in his arm, was treated at Comer Children's Hospital and released.

Several hours later, about 9:40 p.m., there was a second Woodlawn neighborhood shooting, when a man shot his girlfriend in the face during a domestic dispute.

The woman was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. The boyfriend fled before police arrived and still remains at large, police said.

Holiday violence got off to a bloody start Christmas Eve, when four people were seriously wounded after someone opened fire in the Washington Heights neighborhood.

Police say the shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. in the 9400 block of South Justine Street. The four people, ranging in age from a 15-year-old boy to a 22-year-old man, were all in serious-to-critical condition when they were taken to area hospitals.

Over the holiday at least 13 people were wounded in gun violence across the city, according to a tally of shootings. No arrests have been made Wednesday morning, but detectives continue to investigate.
