CHICAGO (CBS) -- The former pastor of First Baptist Church of Hammond will be sentenced later this month for a sexual relationship with a minor.

Pastor Blames Stress For Sex With Minor

In a new court filing, he blames health and financial problems.

Jack Schapp pleaded guilty in federal court to transporting a minor across state lines for sexual relations.

The minimum sentence is 10 years.

He is asking for a break and acknowledges he violated his position of trust.

However, he notes his service to the community and says in a sentencing memorandum that donations to his mega church were down and employees were being laid off.

He said he was working 100 hours a week when the relationship started.

The Post-Tribune reports the filing includes over 100 letters of support from friends and family, including his wife.
