CHICAGO (CBS) — A 50-year old Whiting, Indiana man has drowned after falling through ice.
Edward Ihnat was on Wolf Lake in Hammond about 10 p.m. Wednesday skating with a friend when authorities say the ice cracked and the both went under the water.
Rescue crews were rushed to the former Illiana Yacht Club building near the Indiana Toll Road .
The friend was able to get out, but Ihnat was under water for 20 to 25 minutes before he was found by firefighters.
Authorities said the darkness made it difficult for rescue workers.
