(WSCR) As the search for Lovie Smith’s replacement rolls on, the Bears made a quick stop with a familiar face.

The Tribune reports special teams guru Dave Toub recently interviewed with general manger Phil Emery for the position. Toub, whose name has been rumored in head coaching circles over the past few seasons, interviewed for the Dolphins head coaching position last season.

He joins Keith Armstrong of the Falcons, Joe DeCamillis of the Cowboys and Mike Priefer of the Vikings as the fourth known special teams coach on the Bears’ radar.

Toub’s special teams unit finished the 2012 season eighth in the comprehensive special teams rankings, popularized by Dallas Morning News writer Rick Gosselin and now used league-wide, the Tribune reports.

The 50-year-old Toub has been the Bears’ special teams coach since 2004.
