CHICAGO (STMW) — Three people, a woman, her boyfriend, and his twin brother, were killed and a 15-year-old girl critically injured when the woman driving the car they were in lost control of it and struck three parked vehicles in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood Saturday morning.

About 8:30 a.m., the 2008 Kia Optima was headed northbound on State Street at a high rate of speed in a residential area near 102nd Street, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. A 20-year-old woman was behind the wheel and her 22-year-old boyfriend was seated next to her. Behind him was his twin brother and seated next to the twin brother was a 15-year-old girl, Mirabelli said. It was not yet known what relation the girl had to any of the other three.

At 102nd and State streets the driver lost control of the Kia and struck three parked vehicles — a 2007 Buick Lacrosse, a 2005 Toyota Camry, and a 2004 Buick Rendezvous SUV, Mirabelli said. The Lacrosse was sent into a light pole which it wrapped around, the Camry was pushed into the middle of the street and the Rendezvous was pushed up against a curb. No one was in any of those three vehicles at the time, Mirabelli said.

The four people in the Kia had to be extricated with the Jaws of Life by Chicago Fire Department personnel, according to Mirabelli.

The 20-year-old driver was dead on the scene, Mirabelli said. Her boyfriend was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn,

where he was pronounced dead, and his twin brother was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead, Mirabelli said. The 15-year-old girl was taken in serious to critical condition to Christ Hospital, according to Fire Media Affairs.

A spokeswoman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said that the office was notified of at least one fatality from the crash but she could not yet provide any details.

Investigators from the police Major Accident Investigation Unit continue as of Saturday afternoon to investigate the crash.
