(WSCR) In an effort to endear themselves to a calloused fan base, the Blackhawks took out a full-page ad in the Chicago Tribune, thanking fans for their “patience and loyalty” during the NHL lockout.

The ad is signed by Blackhawks Chairman Rocky Wirtz and president John McDonough, who write they are “looking forward to experiencing the electric atmosphere and energy that (fans) bring to the United Center for every game.”

The Blackhawks will open up this shortened, 48-game season on the road against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
