South Shore Drill Team Leaves For Inauguration Parade In D.C.

(CBS) –On Monday, President Obama takes the oath of office for the second and final time.

When he does, performers from his home town of Chicago will be there to support him.

The South Shore Drill Team will march in the inaugural parade and pass the presidential reviewing stand, where they'll be cheered on by the Commander-in-Chief.

They practiced Friday before boarding a bus for Washington.

"It's going to be a moment to remember," team member Jeffrey Lovett tells CBS 2's Mike Parker.

They'll be joining other performers at the inaugural, such as Beyonce and Stevie Wonder. But taking part in the team means more than just that for these young people.

"It keeps us off the street," Lovett says.

The team raised $45,000 in travel expenses.
