CHICAGO (STMW) – A man died Wednesday night after he was shot multiple times in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, authorities said.

The man, identified as Elton Johnson, 35, was walking on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of North Avers Avenue when a light colored van pulled up next to him about 6 p.m., authorities said.

Two people got out of the van and one of them began to open fire, said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer, adding that the duo got back into the van and sped off.

Johnson, of the 2700 block of West 15th Street, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and abdomen, authorities said, and he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 10:17 p.m.
