CHICAGO (CBS) – Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office has so far received 42 applications for the vacancy in the 7th Ward following the resignation of Sandi Jackson.

The deadline to apply was originally slated for Friday. But Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office said a website to field applications had technical difficulties on that day, so the deadline will be extended until 5 p.m. Monday.

Emanuel says he is appointing a commission with people from the South Shore community to submit a list of three finalists for him to consider.

He says he wants to have the new alderman sworn in by mid-February.
