(CBS) – Police are warning hair salons about the recent string of armed robberies at similar businesses in Chicago and the suburbs.

As CBS 2’s Marissa Bailey reports, the warnings are even going out in suburbs where the serial bandit hasn’t hit.

The brazen robber has struck 11 in exactly one month, getting a few hundred dollars each time.

The series of crimes hasn’t gone unnoticed by Bliss Salon in Winnetka.

“It’s always a concern. You never know where they are going to go next,” owner Penny Halonen says.

While the so-called “Bad Hair Bandit” has avoided Winnetka, police there are warning local businesses to be on alert and to take extra precautions.

“I told the girls if anyone walks in here brandishing a gun of any kind, just give him whatever you want — don’t even question — it doesn’t matter,” Halonen says.

Bliss has multiple surveillance cameras, but many salons don’t, meaning the receptionist is the only form of security when the robber walks in.

Bliss receptionist Tiffany Saarinen says she finds herself keeping an eye out for the suspect whose photo has been publicized by police.

“I have just become more aware of the people around me,” she says.

Winnetka police say they have warned all local businesses and salons to be on the look-out.
