(CBS) – Rather than take a position as a defensive coordinator, former Bears head coach Lovie Smith will likely sit out the 2013 season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that Smith will wait until a head coaching position opens up before the 2014 season.
Smith was fired by the Bears on Dec. 31, 2012 after his team failed to make the playoffs, despite a 10-6 record.
The Bears owe Smith $5 million for the 2013 season, which is the final year of his contract.
