With Camera Rolling, Man Arraigned On Murder, Assault Charges

CHICAGO (CBS) — A 23-year-old Northlake man was arraigned on-camera today in a DuPage County courtroom for the alleged murder and sexual assault of his ex-girlfriend.

Man Pleads Not Guilty In Stabbing

Adam Belmont appeared in an orange jail jumpsuit to face a 23-count indictment, including first-degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault, home invasion, criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and abuse of a corpse.

Belmont showed no emotion in court, but at his last appearance he collapsed.

Belmont pleaded not guilty to stabbing is ex-girlfriend, Alyssa Van Meter, in December. He is accused of breaking into her apartment and using a pocket knife engraved with their anniversary to stab her to death after she refused to reconcile with him.

Belmont had objected to having cameras at the hearing, but Judge Blanche Fawell rejected his claims that photographing him in court could prejudice future jurors against him.
