Ed's Driveway: Ford Taurus
CHICAGO (CBS) -- When it comes to mid-sized sedans, the Ford Taurus has been a well-known name for years and it's a car built in Chicago!
CBS 2's Ed Curran drove the 2013 Taurus on Chicago's streets this week; the version with a smaller, but peppy, 2-liter 240 hp ecoboost engine.
It's strictly a matter of personal taste, but I've never been a fan of cars that have kind of a high beltline, small windows and a high dash in front of me.
So I've never been the hugest fan of the Ford Taurus design, but again that's a matter of personal taste. But, I'll tell ya, once I got into this car was I pleasantly surprised.
Immediately a very comfortable feel, a very nice ride, nice handling, good pickup, and the ecoboost design has given me some pretty good gas mileage, too. Its rate at a combined 26 miles per gallon.
But not in the muscular Taurus SHO version, with its powerful 365 horsepower engine. It's a car you can drive everyday and take to the track on weekends. It still gets a combined 20 mpg.
The Taurus starts under $30,000. With options, ours had a sticker price of $35,000. The SHO starts under $40,000. See them at the Chicago Auto Show opening one week from today.
