1 Dead, 2 Critical After Dan Ryan Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person is dead and two others were critically injured in a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the South Side Sunday afternoon, state police said.

The pin-in crash happened at 95th Street on the inbound Dan Ryan about 2 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.

A man in his 70's lost control of an SUV he was driving and struck a sedan parked on the right shoulder of the expressway, Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sgt. Robert Satkiewicz.

Sylvester Jones, 51, of the 1200 block of South Lawndale Avenue, was inside the sedan and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he died at 3:03 p.m., authorities said.

A second person inside the sedan and a third person outside the sedan were taken to Stroger, Satkiewicz said. Both were listed in serious to critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The elderly driver was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for observation, Satkiewicz said.

Alcohol and drugs were not believed to have played a role in the crash, Satkiewicz said.
