CHICAGO (CBS) – The North Side is getting a new psychiatric hospital strictly for kids.

46th Ward Alderman James Cappelman says he thinks the Chicago Lakeshore’s Children’s Pavilion should succeed, though hospitals have been closing and consolidating for years now in Chicago.

“Certainly they are going to rely on their elected officials to whatever we can to be their advocate, but the truth of the matter is we have to have this, our society needs us,” said Cappelman. “The waiting list for a child to see a psychiatrist is just way too long.

The Chicago Lakeshore Children’s Pavilion will accommodate 60 psychiatric patients at a time 2,000 a year in a formerly vacant building at 4720 N. Clarendon.
