CHICAGO (STMW) – Two teen boys were shot in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

The boys, ages 15 and 16, were walking in the 1600 block of West 49th Street about 4:45 p.m. when someone came out of an alley and started shooting, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

The 16-year-old was shot in the lower back and left hip area, and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in serious condition, Gaines said.

The second boy, 15, suffered only minor injuries and was in “stable” condition at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Gaine said.

Police said previously that boy may have been shot in the leg.

Area Central detectives are investigating, but no one is in custody late Wednesday.
