6 Hurt In Wrong-Way Lake Shore Drive Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Six people were hurt when a wrong-way driver plowed into three other vehicles on Lake Shore Drive in the North Side Lake View neighborhood late Friday.
The woman driving the wrong-way vehicle was headed southbound in the northbound lanes near Waveland Street when she crashed head-on into the other vehicles about 11:30 p.m., Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
A total of six adults were hurt in the crash, Langford said, though paramedics did not expect any of the injuries to be life-threatening.
The driver and one other person were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Langford said. One other person was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, also in serious-to-critical condition.
Paramedics examined three other people hurt in the wreck, but they refused further medical treatment, he said.
Traffic behind the wreck backed up nearly a mile to Belmont Avenue as emergency crews responded, shutting down all northbound lanes, Langford said.
Police had no immediate information about the crash.
