CHICAGO (CBS) – A man is dead after being hit by a car on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

The accident happened in the 3100 block of North Central, which is near Belmont, around 12:40 Saturday morning.

Chicago police say they have a driver in custody for the accident and are preparing to move forward with charges.

Officers say Mario Ortega and three women were attempting to cross the street, when all four were hit.

38 year-old Ortega of Chicago, was taken to Our Lady of Resurrection, where he was pronounced dead.

The three women were taken to different hospitals for broken bones and at least one woman is in serious condition.

Police say a number of parked cars were also hit during the accident.

Ortega lived near the scene of the accident in the Hermosa Park neighborhood. The driver was arrested soon after the fatal crash.
