CHICAGO (STMW) – Two officers were hospitalized after a police chase ended in a crash in the South Side Englewood neighborhood early Thursday.

Gresham District officers were patrolling in a squad car when they heard shots fired and saw a weapon being thrown from a vehicle about 2 a.m. in the 8700 block of South Throop Street, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.

The officers attempted to curb the vehicle but it refused to stop, Gaines said.

Police pursued the vehicle until both vehicles crashed in the 7200 block of South Morgan Street, Gaines said.

Two people were arrested and a weapon was recovered, Gaines said.

Two officers were hospitalized for observation, Gaines said.
