CTA Bus Driver Tasered, Robbed In Austin

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A CTA bus driver was found slumped over the steering wheel of a bus after she was Tasered and robbed by a passenger Saturday morning in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

A 20-year-old man noticed the 40-year-old female driver slumped over the wheel of the CTA bus in the 5900 block of West Jackson Boulevard at 7:30 a.m., police News Affairs John Mirabelli said.

He flagged down a second CTA bus driver, a woman in her 40s, who called police, Mirabelli said.

The CTA bus driver was taken to Loretto Hospital where she was treated and released, Mirabelli said.

The victim was the driver of a westbound no. 126 Jackson bus, CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis said.

A male wearing a dark mask and dark clothing boarded the bus at Jackson Boulevard and Central Avenue and after a few blocks began yelling that he had to get off the bus, Mirabelli said.

The driver stopped in the 5900 block of West Jackson Boulevard to let the male exit the bus when he Tasered her several times in the neck, chest, and left arm, Mirabelli said.

The male then rummaged through her pockets and stole cash before fleeing the bus, Mirabelli said.

The CTA bus driver and the male passenger were the only occupants of the bus, Mirabelli said.

Police are reviewing video from a camera onboard the bus to get a description of the suspect, Mirabelli said.
