Woman Killed In Pace Bus Accident On South Side

(STMW) – A woman was killed after a Pace bus struck a pole Friday afternoon in the South Side Fuller Park neighborhood.

About 12:30 p.m., a pedestrian ran into traffic in the 4600 block of South Halsted Street, police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said.

A Pace bus traveling south swerved to avoid the pedestrian and crashed into a light pole, Ursitti said.

The bus was damaged extensively and a 58-year-old passenger succumbed to her injuries, authorities said.

Ella Williams, of the 1700 block of West 85th Street, was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 1:32 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Leroy Stevenson, 53, of the 7100 block of South Carpenter Street, was cited with damage to public property.
