CHICAGO (CBS) – A state lawmaker from Chicago wants Illinois to be the first state to ban the sale of lion meat, reports WBBM’s Mike Krauser.

State Representative Luis Arroyo’s bill would make it illegal for any person to slaughter a lion or for any person to posses, breed, import or export from the state, or buy or sell lions for the purpose of slaughter.

It goes on to say that it would be unlawful to commercialize lion meat.

Three years ago a butcher in Homer Glen specializing in game found himself at the center of a controversy involving an Arizona restaurant’s promotion of lion burgers.

A check of the website for Czimers Game and Seafoods shows lion meat is not available.
