No Bond For Man Charged With Beating, Stabbing His Mother

HOMEWOOD, ILL. (STMW) -- A 22-year-old south suburban man who was arrested for severely beating and stabbing his mother Monday, then driving off after dumping her in a ditch, was ordered held without bond at a hearing on Saturday.

Blake Springsteen beat his 46-year-old mother in the 3600 block of Flossmoor Road in unincorporated Homewood, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.

He then reportedly bound her, put her in the trunk of a car and drove her to the village of Crete, where he stabbed her multiple times before leaving her in a ditch in the 900 block of Columbia Street in the south suburb, the sheriff's office said.

Flossmoor police arrested Springsteen without incident Thursday night on a no-bond warrant that charged him with attempted murder. The arrest came after police received a tip he was in the area, sheriff's police said.

At a bond hearing at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse in Chicago on Saturday, Springsteen was ordered held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court March 12 for a preliminary hearing.

His mother remained hospitalized in stable condition as of Friday evening, police said.
