Firefighters Battle Blaze In East Chicago

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (STMW) -- Explosions rocked a section of East Chicago as crews battled a fire Saturday that destroyed several businesses in the 500 block of West Chicago Avenue.

The initial fire call came in at 4:33 p.m. The fire eventually spread to a neighboring building to the east.

A crowd gathered to watch the fire, which threw flames and smoke high into the air. The fire also triggered power outages at area businesses, including a Walgreens.

The Lake County Treasurer's Office lists Lake County Trust Co., 2200 N. Main St., Crown Point, as the property owner at 526 W. Chicago Ave.
