Funeral Director Arrested For Operating Without A License

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Cook County sheriff says a South Side funeral director - whose business was closed down last year - has been arrested and charged with operating a funeral home without a license.

It was just over a year ago when Carter Funeral Chapels on East 75th Street was closed down for improperly storing human remains.

The owner, 63-year-old Harry J. Carter III, has been fighting the charges.

And he's been sued by families.

The state revoked his funeral director's license last month.

And Sheriff Tom Dart says Carter was arrested over the weekend for operating without a license - 2 misdemeanor counts.

Carter tells Newsradio it was false charges last year that led to his license being revoked.

"Pretty much based on that fallacy of charges, my license is now revoked. So I have to unravel this knot and get back to square one."

Carter predicts he will get his license back.
