NW Side Thrift Store Evacuated After Finding Grenade

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Northwest Side thrift store was evacuated for awhile this morning - because of something an employee found in a bag of donated clothing.

NW Side Thrift Store Evacuated After Finding Grenade

At the Unique Thrift Store on Diversey, west of Kostner, police say an employee was sorting through some some clothing that had been given to the store when he found a grenade in the clothing bag.

Police say the grenade was blue and its pin was intact.

Chicago Police bomb technicians went to the store and SWAT officers. And the Unique Thrift Store was evacuated for awhile.

A police spokesman says they determined the grenade was inert.

Now police are trying to find out if it was just happenstance that the grenade was in the bag of donated clothing, or whether it adds up to a direct threat.
