Man Kills Self In Standoff With Police, After Woman Found Dead In Antioch

Murder-Suicide In Antioch

ANTIOCH, Ill. (CBS) -- A man was found dead inside a mobile home in north suburban Antioch late Friday morning, more than four hours after he barricaded himself inside, in an apparent murder-suicide.

Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran says 57-year-old Paul Neff killed his ex-girlfriend, Diane Kephart, on the street in front of her father's Antioch home. Then he killed himself in a nearby trailer after police tried to coax him out, the sheriff said.

Kephart, 57, had recently taken out a renewed order of protection against Neff, who lived in Mundelein, Curran said.

Around 7:38 a.m., Lake County Sheriff's deputies responded to calls of an injured woman near Beach Grove Road and Westlake Avenue, in unincorporated Antioch. The woman was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was pronounced dead.

When officers arrived at the scene, a man who might have been involved in the woman's death barricaded himself inside a mobile home nearby. Police talked to him for several hours before entering the mobile home, where they found him dead inside. A suicide note was found inside his vehicle.
