Ted Phillips: I Hope Urlacher's Career Ends With Us

(CBS) It's been almost a week since Brian Urlacher became an unrestricted free agenct for the first time in his career.

Bears president Ted Phillips addressed the possibility of the 34-year-old Urlacher returning to the Bears.

"The reality is we would like nothing more than for Brian to finish his career as a Bear," Phillips said from the NFL meetings. "I still remember the day we drafted him.  He played safety in college and he's turned into one of the best middle linebackers and Chicago Bears in history.  I hope his career ends with us."

Phillips didn't say whether or not the Bears will offer the middle linebacker a contract, but he is hopeful the situation will come to a resolution soon.

"In terms of the current situation, sometimes it takes time for things to play out," Phillips said. "I have great confidence in how (general manager) Phil (Emery) has handled that situation.  He's handled it exactly the way you would want to with a player of Brian's caliber.  It will resolve itself hopefully pretty soon."
