Man Charged With Buying Booze For Teen Who Was Struck, Killed By Car

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (STMW) -- A southwest suburban teen died Monday, three days after being struck by a vehicle, and on Monday a 21-year-old man was charged with buying her alcohol.

Rosabel Gutierrez, 17, of Orland Park, was hit by the vehicle about 5 a.m. Friday in the 3600 block of Lincoln Highway (U.S. 30) in Olympia Fields, according to a statement from Olympia Fields police.

Police received multiple 911 calls about the girl walking in the middle of the roadway before being struck, police said.

Gutierrez, of the 15100 block of El Cameno Terrace in Orland Park, was pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m. Monday at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

On Monday, 21-year-old Lemanuel J. Pitts of the 100 block of Illinois Street in Park Forest was charged with one count each of providing liquor to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, police said.

Police said that prior to the accident, Gutierrez had been a party with Pitts in Park Forest.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, and police said the family has asked that the victim's organs be donated to the Gift of Hope Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
