Man Dead After Washington Heights Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man is dead following a fire in the Washington Heights neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters responded about 1:53 p.m. to the blaze in a one-and-a-half story residence at 9330 S. Union Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs.

A 57-year-old man was dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office and fire media.

Heavy smoke was discovered in the basement, fire media said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
