Oak Forest Townhome Fire Injures Two

Oak Forest Fire Chief Terry Lipinski says a police officer raced up a stairway to a second floor unit at 5200 Woodland Drive to try to rescue a woman who was up there, but smoke pushed him back.

Firefighters rescued the woman.

"I don't know what the cause was they are investigating right now and it started we believe in a couch in the living room," said Chief Lipinski.

Chief Lipinski says the police officer and the woman were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The fire was brought under control about 20 minutes after firefighters arrived.
