OAK FOREST, Ill. (CBS) — Jessie Rodriguez has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 3-year-old girl in southwest suburban Oak Forest, according to a release from Oak Forest Police.

A police investigation revealed that Rodriguez is the boyfriend of the aunt and guardian of three-year-old Gina Presley, who died from head trauma.

Rodriguez, 42, of Chicago, had been in police custody since March 28 and the other person of interest in the case has been released.

“A child homicide motivates everyone in law enforcement to determine what happened and who is responsible. This is not consolation for the family or the community and only begins to provide a response to such a horrific act” said Chief of Police Gregory Anderson in the release.
