CHICAGO (CBS) — Volunteers spread out across the city this Easter Sunday looking to provide a little holiday cheer to lonely seniors, reports WBBM’s Michele Fiore.
Wearing bunny ears, volunteers stop by the Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly office on north Ashland and pick up baskets of goodies.
“And the bags are all decorated by school children and there’s fun decorations on the outside,” said Little Brothers spokesperson Cecilia Straney.
Straney’s thrilled to watch.
“Our volunteers are marvelous, they are wonderful. They drive their own cars, they go all over the city and make sure that they have that people have that moment on the holiday to know that they’re remembered,” said Straney.
This Easter, volunteers dropped off treat bags at the homes of 260 seniors around the city, spending the holiday alone.
“We want them to know that they are remembered,” said Straney.
