Burned Pregnant Pit Bull Dies 2 Weeks After Being Found

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The end to the story of a pregnant pit bull, discovered in Park Forest Palm Sunday, with burns to 25 percent of her body, is a tear-jerker, reports WBBM's Michele Fiore.

Nearly 10,000 friends of Mama Petunia's Facebook page received notification early Sunday that Petunia had lost the fight. The page's creator, Jamie Skraban posted the update after getting a dreaded phone call around 5:45 a.m.

Skraban from "It's a Pittie" rescue has been posting pictures, right from the start, pictures that make dog lovers just cringe.

Understand that dogs have a beating heart, they have feelings and deserve better treatment. For now, Petunia's puppies are being bottle fed and will likely be adoptable in ten weeks through It's A Pittie rescue.
